H I S T O R Y

Iago is from a long line of learned nobles, and grew up surrounded by a wealth of knowledge and expertise. It was only natural for him to show an interest in scientific fields from a young age, and by the time he was only seven years old this had narrowed to a deep fascination with biology, specifically the workings and malfunctions of the human body. This logically led into studying medical science, and encouraged by his parents (who were extremely proud of their precocious boy) he dedicated himself to becoming a doctor in aid of discovering all he could about the nature of the human form.

By age fourteen he was as qualified in theory as any adult, and soon after began interning regularly with various friends of his father. The sudden practical application of all his knowledge was heady, and his interest expanded from simple curiosity about the mechanics of the body to the intriguing relationship between doctor and patient and the interdependent nature of it all. He began to add psychological studies to his biological studies, and once he had his own practice and had begun to build his own reputation, quickly began to use his observations in tandem to experiment on his patients in various ways. He never grew tired of exploiting the dependency his patients had on him, enjoying controlling their behaviour in ways that were useful to his continued research.

At twenty five, he is now highly respected in his field, and has married well, to Emilia, the eldest daughter of another noble Dakan house. The live-in physician of the eldest son of the powerful Valdes family, he has been working in recent months to find a cure for the boy’s sudden inability to stand or walk. He’s enjoying himself far too much toying with someone trapped so completely in his care, and is confident he’ll break Marcus open eventually and gain emotional control over him as well as physical and semi-psychological. It’s only a matter of patience.

Although last week, dear Emilia didn’t return from her afternoon walk. Most inconvenient. She was a helpful assistant, and a shrewd and devoted wife. It’s not easy to find another woman like that.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Iago’s façade is calm and polite, smiling but not overly cheerful, and he always appears to feel genuine concern for his patients. He gives off an air of being entirely professional and completely trustworthy, and there are very few people who could tell upon talking to him that beneath it all he’s obsessive, compulsive and insanely controlling. That side is apparent only in moderation to his closest patients, and even they have no real idea of the level of his fascination, being usually driven to infatuation with him. His actions can be borderline suspicious, but never more than that in public. He doesn’t take risks.

While he considers himself incapable of feeling any genuine affection towards other human beings, this is not entirely the case, since he becomes personally attached to his patients in his own way, and generally does take care of them to the best of his ability as he simultaneously picks them apart. His behaviour with his wife is dismissive, but he finds himself missing her a little more than he should now that she is gone.

A P P E A R A N C E

A little on the tall, thin side, Iago moves with the precise control of a natural surgeon. He alternates between gentle smiles and utter professionalism in mannerisms, and is always economical with his gestures. He wears glasses most of the time, and has a habit of pushing them more firmly onto the bridge of his nose when wryly amused or exasperated. He is also usually perfectly groomed, symptomatic of a tendency towards obsessive-compulsion. Despite this, he always keeps his hands bare while working.
